The Counterfeit Faith: Fear

By April 8, 2013 Sermon Notes

coun·ter·feit /ˈkountərˌfit
Made in exact imitation of something valuable or important with the intention to
deceive or defraud.
-fear cannot roll into this new season with us
-like faith, fear is a word that has to be put into action in order to work.

1. You were planned for God’s pleasure
Ephesians 1:4
For he chose us in Him before the creation of the world …
Ephesians 1: 11
In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of
him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will,”
– God chose me. I don’t have to be ashamed of who I am
– It’s not up to me to bless myself

2. You were formed for God’s family
Ephesians 1:5
He predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in
accordance with His pleasure and will.
Ephesians 2:19-22
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens
with God’s people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation
of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.
21 In Him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple
in the Lord. 22 And in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling
in which God lives by his Spirit.

3. You were created to become like Christ
Ephesians 1:7
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in
accordance with the riches of God’s grace
Ephesians 1:12
in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the
praise of His glory.
Ephesians 4:15, 24
Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the
mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ. 24 and to put on the new
self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

4. You were shaped for serving God
Ephesians 4:11-13
It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be
evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for

works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach
unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature,
attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”
-It’s time for us to mature!
-Let’s get the full measure; not settling for less

DON’T believe the lie…
The biggest lie ever told in the history of the world was the lie of fear
-Fear only comes to steal our faith
-Fear is the substance of things hoped for…
-Fear also comes by hearing BUT hearing the word of the enemy

5. You were made for a mission
Ephesians 1:9, 2:15
9 And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good
pleasure, which he purposed in Christ … 15 His purpose was to create in
himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one
body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to
death their hostility.”

I am convinced that knowing God’s purposes for your life will reduce your stress,
will focus your energy, will simplify your decisions, will give meaning to your life
and, most importantly, will prepare you for eternity.

Regardless of your age, the rest of your life can be the best of your life – if you
start living on purpose today.
