Peculiar Vision

By October 27, 2012 Sermon Notes

1 PETER 2:1-10 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy,
envy, and slander of every kind. 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk,
so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that
the Lord is good.4 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans
but chosen by God and precious to him— 5 you also, like living stones, are being
built into a spiritual house[a] to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices
acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For in Scripture it says:
“See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone,
and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” 7 Now to you who
believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,“The stone the
builders rejected has become the cornerstone,” 8 and, “A stone that causes
people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they
disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for. 9 But you are
a (peculiar) chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, (a peculiar people)
God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called
you out of darkness into his wonderful light.10 Once you were not a people, but
now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you
have received mercy.

I was chosen to be different
Don’t waste time trying to find your self in other people. BE YOU!!
A peculiar person can stand alone in their uniqueness
We should commit to declaring the name of Jesus.
pe·cu·liar (p-kylyr)
1. Unusual or eccentric; odd.
2. Distinct from all others. See Synonyms at strange.
3. Belonging distinctively or primarily to one person, group, or kind; special or
unique: rights peculiar to the rich; a species peculiar to this area.
1. A privilege or property that is exclusively one’s own.

Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that
keepeth the law, happy is he.

If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; 6But
when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.
Proverbs 29:18h n (MSG)

Vision is the ability to see the future achievement of God’s personal plan for your
God has a personal plan for you
There are no cookie cutter plans in God’s kingdom. God has individually
tailored a plan specifically for you.
Think of construction plans the differ for each building. None are the same

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to
prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Vision is the picture of what God wants to accomplish in and through your life.-

So maybe you’re wondering, “Why do I need a vision anyway?”
– Without vision the people perish. Vision motivates us by giving a clear
-Vision specifies our destination, so course corrections can be made when
we see we are drifting.

It is important to remember that vision is dynamic. Your vision will unfold over
time. God reveals more of His plan in response to your obedience.

Keep in mind that- vision is not ambition.
-Ambition is dreaming your own dream for God to bless.
Living by ambition leads to driven-ness, restlessness and panic.
-Vision is discovering what God has created and called you to do and
surrendering to it.
-Clear vision leads to peace, power and passion.
-Peculiar vision is what God has for us in-spite of how bad we think things are

So, how do you discover your unique vision?

(Henry Blackaby)”When God gets ready for you to take a new step or direction in
his activity, it will always be in sequence with what he has already been doing.”

Examining your past is the best place to start when discovering God’s
peculiar vision for your life.
Ask yourself:
What are your experiences?
Who are the people God has used in your life?
What patterns of God’s activity do you see?

Hebrews 13:8 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

The second step is to utilize the visioning power of prayer. God will use your time
with him to speak to your heart and guide your path.

Keep in mind that vision is a process. You need to apply the P.U.S.H. principle.
Pray Until Something Happens. Continue to pray for God’s unique vision, don’t
quit…God will reveal in His time His vision for you.

-Once you have recognized God’s vision for your life, it is important that
you be able to articulate it.

-It should become a central anchor in your life.
-Things that don’t work toward your vision need to be questioned.
