A lot of people feel disconnected right now. Disconnected from God, from
your church, from your family, and even from yourself
Hard times hit us all. No exemptions!
It’s not over, we are just getting started. Let’s keep on keeping on
13 One day when Job’s sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at
the oldest brother’s house, 14 a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were
plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, 15 and the Sabeans attacked and
made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who
has escaped to tell you!” 16 While he was still speaking, another messenger came
and said, “The fire of God fell from the heavens and burned up the sheep and the
servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!” 17 While he was
still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three
raiding parties and swept down on your camels and made off with them. They put the
servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”
18 While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, “Your sons
and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, 19
when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of
the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has
escaped to tell you!” 20 At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head.
Then he fell to the ground in worship 21 and said:
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
and naked I will depart.[a] The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
may the name of the Lord be praised.”
22 In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.
1) Our first reaction to feeling disconnected should be worship
– Why do we complain first? Probably because we don’t really trust that
God is paying attention
– Job shaved his head and tore his robe and fell to the ground. When
we get desperate for the Lord our appearance doesn’t matter.
-GET NAKED. take off the front and be real
2). Don’t get caught up on the messenger, it’s a blessing
-A messenger always comes to tell us bad news. Seems like before we
can even adjust to what we just hear more bad news is on it’s way.
– It’s good to know when something is wrong so we can deal with it!!!
Imagine if the one survivor didn’t survive. Who would tell you that
3). Recognize who has the real authority in your life.
-The Lord gives and takes away. He is in charge, which makes Him
have the final say.
-Learn to trust in God’s perfect timing.
– If you have experienced loss of any kind, please understand that it’s
not a person who takes away, it’s GOD. And He does it for our good
– Hard times is not the time to disconnect. We need Gods perspective
to look at hard times in the correct way: God is preparing us for eternity
– Can you trust God in the giving and the taking?? Or do you just want
4) Count it all joy!!
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many
kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4
Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking
anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously
to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must
believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown
and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the
Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
